What Is GAMS?
GAMS is a literary zine (short for magazine) which publishes a short issue on the 20th of every other month. We distribute hard copies around Appalachian State University's campus, as well as posting a .pdf right here on our website!
We publish short stories, essays, poetry, comics, and other visual art relating to feminism, LGBTQA+ rights, civil rights, politics, life, art, love, friends, family, and other things we care about. We do not tolerate racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, anti-semitism, ableism, or any other kind of hatred in our journal. We are ALWAYS body positive, LGBTQA+ positive (and we don't forget the B, T, or any of the As), and in favor of self-love. |
Who Are We?
We're a group of Sophomores at Appalachian State University who were inspired to create something powerful. We come from a variety of majors (English/Creative Writing, Physics, Biology, and more!) and a wide range of ethnic and religious backgrounds. We are all of us writerly, nerdy, pseudo-intellecual, queer feminists who are excited and angry about the state of the world.
The main group of us make up the editorial staff and most of the writers, but we welcome submissions from any and everyone! See our "Submit" page for details.

Why the word "Gams"? What does that even mean?
"Gams" is a slang word for "legs" from the 1920's. It was chosen because we thought it sounded cool, but it quickly became our theme. All our covers feature legs, and you'll notice them around our website, too!
